STAR SKATE REMINDERS OCTOBER 25TH, 2020

STAR Skate Letter October 25th, 2020

Hello,

Skating is off to a great start!  What an amazing week we had on the ice.  Some of us were a bit nervous after being off for so long but it all came back quickly.  Not before too long everyone looked like they never missed a day.

This email is a reminder of some of the new protocols that are in place.  These protocols are here to ensure we will stay safe and be able to continue to have ice and do what we love, skate!  Please ensure your skater(s) are aware of these protocols.

Arriving and exiting the rink.  We are now allowed to enter the arena 15 minutes prior to your session start time.  Doors will be locked when the session begins. If you are late you will not be able to access the arena. If possible, please wear you skates to the arena or put them on in the parking lot.  This will cut down on the time it takes to check in and begin to skate.  If your skater requires help to put skates on this will eliminate the need for extra people in the dressing rooms. Please note there is no in and out privileges.  Once you leave you cannot enter until 15 minutes before our next session.  Parents, you may stay to watch, or if you have older skaters, you may wait in the parking lot and have your skater meet you at the exit.  Please exit the arena quickly so that we do not exceed our facilities 50 person capacity.

What to bring to skating? Personal items like skating bags should be left in the relevant individual’s vehicle if available (in a safe and secure location) and where possible, not be brought into the arena. Skaters and coaches may carry their own water bottle, tissue box etc. into the arena. Skaters must use individual water bottles, tissue boxes etc. during training sessions. No sharing of these items is permitted. Skaters must have their own closed containers (i.e. Ziploc bag) for disposing of used personal items such as tissues. These must be disposed of at home.

For those of you who skated this past Wednesday you may have noticed the addition of stickers on top of the boards at the player’s bench areas.  These stickers are placed 2 meters apart to help us keep our items separated at the boards and keep our skaters physically distanced.  When the skaters arrive on the ice with guards, water bottles, Kleenex etc. please tell them to find a sticker to place their items on.

How to use the iPod?  We are only allowing the coaches to use the iPod at this time.  The IPod has been sanitized prior to coming to the ice level.  Every time a coach uses the iPod they will sanitize their hands before and after they touch it.  To reduce contact touching, only the coaches are allowed to use the iPod at this time.  If a skater would like a dance or a solo played please have skaters ask a coach.

We know that there are a lot of new rules to skating this year and that from time to time we may forget to follow all of them.  Let’s try to do our best to keep us all safe on and off the ice so we can keep on skating.

Yours in skating,

Uxbridge Skating Club

RETURN TO SKATING GUIDLINES

Return to Skate Guidelines – What to Expect

October 13, 2020

The Uxbridge Skating Club is excited to welcome its members back to the ice for the 2020/21 season.  We will be doing everything possible to keep everyone safe, while having fun and learning new skills.

To facilitate our re-opening under Covid-19, the following guidelines have been put in place to align with current public health guidelines and the most recent Skate Ontario Return to Play Protocols.  It is critical that all members review these guidelines carefully.

In addition to these guidelines we have also provided a video walkthrough of what to expect when you return to the rink.  Click this link to watch: https://youtu.be/TApiTkdDrrc

Prior to entry

  • All participants must complete and submit both the Skate Ontario Covid-19 Waiver, in addition to the Township of Uxbridge Covid-19 Facility Waiver prior to entering the arena. Failure to do so will mean that individual must not participate.  These waivers only need to be completed once, prior to your first entry. All skaters have already completed the Skate Ontario Covid-19 Waiver when they registered online. Please bring the Township of Uxbridge Covid-19 Facility Waiver with you on the first day of skating.  This waiver can be found on our COVID-19 page of our website.
  • All individuals wishing to enter the arena must self-screen for Covid-19 symptoms in accordance with current public health guidelines, prior to each and every training session. The Health Screening Questionnaire can be found here and can be found on our COVID-19 page of our website: https://skateontario.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/FILL_Health_Screening_Q_v4.0_SEP24_2020.pdf .   If the answer is ‘Yes’ to any of the questions, the individual must not attend any training sessions or club activities.
  • Entry to the building will only be allowed through the main doors at the front of the building, and specifically through the door marked Pad 1.
  • The entry door will be unlocked 10 minutes prior to the start of each session and will be relocked 10 minutes following the start of the session. It is therefore important that you arrive on time.
  • Only 1 parent/guardian can accompany their skater into the arena. NO EXCEPTIONS.  There is a facility limit of 50 persons per ice pad.  Between skaters, parents, coaches and volunteers, this limit is quickly reached.
  • Everyone MUST wear a mask in order to enter the arena.
  • At the door you will be greeted by a volunteer who will review the Health Questionnaire with you, confirm your name and contact information for contract tracing purposes, and direct you to a dressing room.
  • Participants must come dressed to skate. Where possible, it is further recommended that participants arrive with their skates on.  Dressing rooms are only available for putting on skates and helmets, if applicable.  Only small bags (no duffels) with the minimum requirements (skates, helmet, gloves, water bottle) will be allowed and can be stored in the dressing room.  Personal items should be left in the relevant individual’s vehicle if available (in a safe and secure location).  No outside food or drink, with the exception of a water bottle, is allowed in the facility.

Inside the facility

  • CanSkaters – You will pick up your name tag from the entry table on your first day of skating. You will be expected to keep this tag and wear it to each session.  We will not collect them at the end of each session, as we have in past years.
  • All skaters will proceed directly to the dressing rooms assigned. Only 10 people are permitted per dressing room at one time.  Spots will be marked indicating where you can sit.
  • Skaters must use individual water bottles, tissue boxes, etc … during training sessions. No sharing of these items is permitted.  Skaters must have their own closed containers (i.e. Ziploc bag) for carry and disposing of used personal items such as tissues, which must be taken home to be disposed of.
  • Water bottles may be filled at the refill station in the lobby of Pad 1. Do not drink directly from the water fountain.
  • Skaters may remove their masks when on the ice. They must keep their mask with them (in a pocket or their Ziploc bag) in order to again mask when coming off the ice.  Those skaters wearing a helmet with a cage, may remove their mask at the time of putting on their helmet.
  • Skaters are encouraged to stay on the ice for their full session.
  • Washrooms will be available if needed, but all are encouraged to use facilities prior to arriving at the arena.
  • All skaters will enter the ice from the centre of the arena between the stands and exit the ice at the lobby end. Skaters will follow Physical Distancing guidelines ensuring 6 feet from the skater in front of you until you are able to enter/exit the ice.
  • Everyone must practice Physical Distancing at all times while in the facility and while waiting to enter the facility, unless you are from the same household.
  • Skaters and coaches will need to keep a distance of 6 feet from one another while on the ice. For this reason, CanSkaters MUST be able to skate unassisted.
  • Any winter gloves that are worn by skaters should be washed before use at your next training session.
  • Spectators may sit in the stands. Sections 1 and 4 will be open.  You may also sit in the lobby seating area of Pad 1, practicing Physical Distancing at all times.
  • All must exit the arena immediately following their session and will exit only through the doors at the end of the hallway, past the washrooms (facing the tennis courts).

We thank all our members for working together with us to make this a safe and successful return to skating.  We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding in following these guidelines so that we can continue to participate in this sport that we love.
